i know the french knives were sold in france

Multitools fertigten mehrere Solinger Hersteller in unterschiedlichsten Ausführungen bereits vor dem 1. Weltkrieg - und verkauften sie selbstverständlich neben beträchtlichem Export auch in Deutschland.
Einer der führenden Hersteller war die Firma Böntgen & Sabin ("BONSA"),
die z.B. 1913 ein Mutlitool im Lederetui bewarb:

It is a fact that several German / Solingen cutlers invented different multitools. They marketed these items successfully worldwide and offered them also on the German market (why not?).

ive seen many tool kit pocket knives from germany in germany,,
but ive never seen any of the "overland" fishermans friend knives sold there,, these were marketed by several firms in the u.s. wounder different brands,
ive only seen them in canada and the u.s. in any amounts.
same with the other german plier made knives ,
